椎葉厳島神社 について

Itsukushima Shrine, formerly known as Itsukushima-daimyojin, was founded in 1185 by Nasu Daihachiro Munehisa, who received an order from the Kamakura shogunate to mourn the Heike clan defeated in the Battle of Dannoura in Nagato, and who, deeply moved by pity at the sight of Heike remnants in the mountains of Shiiba, invoked the guardian deity of Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima in Aki, the land of the Heike nobility. The shrine is said to be beneficial for traffic safety, protection from bad luck and the fulfilment of love, and is still enshrined as the local deity of the village. Within the precincts of the shrine there is the 'Tsurutohime Make-up Water' said to have been used by Princess Tsurutomi, the remains of the Genji campsite and the 'Shiba ring'. The autumn festival is held on the first Sunday of November, and the winter festival, known as the Winter Festival Night Kagura Festival, is held from the second Saturday to Sunday of December and is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. The 'Kami-Shiiba Kagura' is dedicated.
