About Koshogatsu decorations

In the village of Toya-no-o, one can see some of the most gorgeous mageo creations in the village. A willow tree is attached to the pillar of the sitting room called dei, which is decorated with coloured rice cakes, millet and millet cakes, taro sticks, corn, local radish, sweet potato, soya beans and azuki beans. A decoration called konomiya is also added. The one with all the bark shaved off is said to be an ear of millet and the one with the bark shaved off in patches is said to be an ear of milia. Next to the straw bag containing the seed rice is a straw bag with a mageyo (a straw bag with rice seeds), and in front of the straw bag is Daikoku-sama, a deity enshrined in front of the straw bag made from azuki bean cakes called fukujudono.
