On the 11th of the New Year, the drummers gather at the Tayu's house to start using the drums. The drumming of the taiko is called 'taiko no kuchiaki' (the opening of the taiko mouth), and is followed by the dedication of the third kagura performance, called shikisanban. Currently, it is performed in Mukaiyama Hizoe, Hitto and Otena. In Murashii, it is held on 11 January of the lunar calendar under the name 'Suzu no Kuchi-Okirai' (opening of the mouth of the bell). This day is mainly for the beginning of the use of tools, and is also called 'hoeing'. (Photo: Mukoyama Hizoe)
