柳田國男 について

Yanagida, Kunio (1875-1962) Founder of Japanese folklore. Born into the Matsuoka family in Tahara village, Kanzaki-gun, Hyogo Prefecture. Graduated from the Political Science Department of Tokyo Imperial University in 1900.

In 1909, Kunio Yanagida wrote his first book on folklore-related subjects, Gokari Shiki. This was the first publication in Japanese folklore, and its entire contents were devoted to the hunting folklore of Shiiba village.
Kunio Yanagida visited Shiiba Village for a week from 13 July 1908. He stayed at a private house in Shiiba for six days, and his house still remains exactly as it was. A stone monument erected in August 1985 in the garden, which reads 'Cradle of Japanese Folklore', was erected in August 1985.
