About the crop testers

On New Year's Day, rice grains are placed in tangos filled with young water at each household to predict the year's harvest. If the rice grain sinks straight down, the year is said to be good; if it sinks slowly, it is said to be bad. The name of each crop is called out one by one, such as millet, millet and carrots, and two or three grains of rice are dipped into the water to divine the crop's abundance or bad harvest.
